The Store Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of store operations at GameStop. Utilizing GameStop's unique business model centered on buying, selling, trading, and reservations the Circle of Life the Store Manager cultivates a high-performing sales culture. This involves creating personalized and comprehensive solutions for every guest, ensuring exceptional guest service experiences through professional conduct and a shared enthusiasm for gaming. The Store Manager oversees all store functions, ensuring products are attractively displayed and readily available for purchase. They drive sales by empowering the team to share product knowledge and gaming expertise with guests, maintain a clean and organized shopping environment, and foster guest loyalty and repeat business. The Store Manager directly supervises the Assistant Store Manager, Sales Associates, and Retail Keyholders, providing leadership and guidance to achieve store objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support the overall store environment, encompassing visual merchandising, operational efficiency, current promotional activities, and the development of strong guest relationships that drive sales and encourage repeat visits.
  • Ensure the accurate and efficient processing of guest purchases and returns using the Point?of?Sale (POS) system via PC keyboard, including accurate cash handling, proper packaging of merchandise, providing receipts, and consistently delivering excellent guest service.
  • Address guest inquiries and concerns promptly and professionally, whether in person or via phone. Answer all phone calls using the designated GameStop greeting and escalate complex customer issues to the District Manager in a timely and professional manner when necessary.
  • Champion GameStop’s guest benefits, such as the new title reservation program, the trade-in program, and the Pro Rewards guest loyalty program, actively promoting their value to guests.
  • Establish clear guest service expectations for all store associates and provide comprehensive training on all facets of their job responsibilities, including adherence to company and store policies, procedures, practices, and guidelines.
  • Regularly observe associate performance, provide constructive and timely feedback to team members, and address performance issues in accordance with company policy, ensuring all store associates are aligned with GameStop’s guest service standards.
  • Provide ongoing recognition and feedback to all store associates regarding their performance; regularly document written feedback for each team member within the Workday / HR service management system.
  • Ensure all store associates complete all required onboarding, job-specific training, and compliance training BEFORE independently opening or closing a shift. Verify that all team members possess a thorough understanding of their responsibilities, including company/store policies, inventory control and loss prevention measures (including scam awareness), safety protocols, financial procedures, and ethical conduct.
  • Develop and manage store associate schedules, adhering to scheduling guidelines and ensuring all breaks and meal periods are appropriately accounted for. Maintain optimal staffing levels to consistently provide best?in?class guest service at all times.
  • Review and approve payroll, process paid time off requests (e.g., wellness), make necessary time edits, and ensure all store associates are accurately compensated for all hours worked.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing store environment in all areas, including restrooms, adhering to company merchandising standards and ensuring all store fixtures and equipment are in proper working order.
  • Oversee the efficient fulfillment and daily shipment of all Omni-Channel orders.
  • Safeguard company assets through diligent inventory control and loss prevention strategies, including scam awareness, adherence to safety best practices, and the timely delivery of bank deposits as required. Conduct visual inspections of associates' packages and/or belongings at store closing or the end of a shift as appropriate. Communicate any concerns or discrepancies to the District Manager.
  • Lead the store team in achieving and exceeding established sales, profit, and shrink targets, and ensure the timely and accurate completion of all required administrative and operational tasks.
  • Oversee the completion of store inventory counts, the stocking and restocking of merchandise on shelves and fixtures, and the movement of products from the stockroom to the sales floor, ensuring all products are represented, organized, and alphabetized according to company guidelines.
  • Accurately count, balance, and reconcile daily business transaction totals within the POS system. Ensure all end-of-day paperwork for business transactions and bank deposit slips are completed correctly and accurately; maintain sufficient cash and change for sales transactions; make bank deposits daily or as per established guidelines.
  • Verify all incoming shipments for any discrepancies or shortages and record them accurately in the POS system; conduct regular merchandise counts and inventories and report any discrepancies to the District Manager.
  • Manage the processing of defective or recalled merchandise and stock pulls accurately and promptly, ensuring all boxes are properly labeled and include necessary packing lists.
  • Maintain a strong focus on associate and guest safety; identify and immediately address any potential hazards. Report any incidents or injuries promptly in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Maintain organized and up-to-date store records and files; ensure all manuals and relevant documents are current.
  • Supervise and delegate tasks to the Assistant Store Manager, Sales Associates, and Retail Keyholders.
  • Consistently adhere to all GameStop policies and procedures, including, but not limited to, those outlined in the Associate Handbook and the Code of Standards, Ethics & Conduct.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all store opening and closing procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Must provide valid proof of identity and legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required; an associate's or accredited bachelor's degree with a focus in business, marketing, merchandising, or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 1 year of retail management experience is preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in retail sales, guest service, and/or management is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of video games is preferred.

  • Meet and maintain associate performance expectations, including attendance, professional appearance, safety awareness, and fostering a respectful workplace.
  • Proficiently operate the Point-of-Sale (POS) computer system.
  • Possess strong basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, currency handling) and alphabetization skills.
  • Accurately and completely fill out all required paperwork.
  • Understand and follow instructions provided in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Execute all financial tasks with strict adherence to company policy.
  • Be able to work a flexible schedule, which may include extended hours, varied days, nights, weekends, and some holidays, based on business needs. Minimum availability of 5 days per week is required.
  • Effectively manage pressure and adapt to challenging situations while maintaining positive guest interactions; demonstrate creativity and problem-solving abilities.
  • Be dependable and trustworthy; consistently exercise sound judgment.
  • Capable of working independently. Able to stand and move throughout the store without assistance for extended periods (up to 12 hours per day).
  • Ability to bend, stoop, crouch, balance, stretch, reach with arms/hands, climb ladders, and lift merchandise weighing up to 30 lbs from ground level to a minimum height of 4 feet, and utilize other basic fine and gross motor skills.
  • Possess or acquire during employment onboarding a working knowledge of military ranks and related insignia (only applicable for positions in stores located on military bases).
