Job Summary

As a Commercial Truck Driver, the primary responsibility is to ensure the timely transportation of goods between Dollar General Distribution Centers, stores, and suppliers. This position necessitates the safe operation of a tractor-trailer, precise loading and unloading of freight, and the provision of exceptional customer service. Adherence to all relevant state and federal regulations is crucial for drivers to uphold safety and productivity on the highways.

Responsibilities

Primary Duties:

• Deliver and pick up goods between stores, manage product returns, and arrange for transporting loads back to the distribution center, ensuring a secure and prompt service, while abiding by corporate policies and regulatory requirements.
• Transfer and reload merchandise and rolltainers at designated store sites.
• Make sure to fasten all freight and rolltainers securely prior to sealing the trailer shut.
• Fill out all essential forms and uphold precise record-keeping.
• Offer exceptional customer support to store personnel, vendors, and distribution center workers.
• Make sure to follow the guidelines established by the DOT and FMCSA to stay in line with regulatory requirements.
• Carry out pre-departure and post-arrival checks on assigned transportation.

Physical Requirements:

• Proficiency in moving and handling rolltainers that weigh between 600 and 1,200 lbs.
• Repeatedly squatting, crouching, and stretching to deal with goods.
• - Proficient in handling and moving loads that are 50 pounds or less.
• Manual manipulation of the fifth wheel levers, tandem pins, and securing the trailer connections.
• Proficiency in performing tasks in extreme climate conditions, such as hot, cold, and refrigerated surroundings.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

• It is desirable to have a high school diploma or its equivalent.
• Holding a legitimate Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
• A minimum of six months of past driving experience with tractor-trailers is necessary.
• Familiarity with DOT rules and FMCSA safety guidelines is crucial.
• Adherence to the DOT's standards for medical fitness, safety procedures, and testing for drugs and alcohol is a prerequisite.

• Familiar with extended travel durations and overnight stays.
• Prioritizing safety measures and a thorough focus on specifics.
• Adept communication and customer service aptitudes play a vital role in fostering positive relationships with customers.
