Job Summary

The key role of a Tractor-Trailer Operator revolves around guaranteeing the punctual delivery of merchandise from Dollar General Distribution Centers to stores and vendors. This position entails operating a tractor-trailer in a secure manner, accurately unloading and reloading cargo, and delivering outstanding customer care. Drivers are required to follow all state and federal mandates to ensure safety and efficiency while on the road.

Responsibilities

Primary Duties:

• Handle the transportation of inventory from one place to another, manage the process of returning items, and organize the movement of goods for efficient and timely delivery, following company protocols and federal mandates.
• Handle the unloading and reloading of freight and rolltainers per store destination.
• It is essential to properly secure all freight and rolltainers before sealing the trailer for transit.
• Complete all obligatory paperwork and ensure the accuracy of record maintenance.
• Provide high-level service to store teams, vendors, and distribution center employees.
• Stay compliant with all DOT and FMCSA regulations to ensure adherence to federal transportation safety standards.
• Inspect vehicles for safety measures prior to commencing travel and upon completion.

Physical Requirements:

• Capacity to push and pull heavy rolltainers, varying from 600 to 1,200 lbs in weight.
• Consistent squatting, bending, and reaching to manipulate freight items.
• - Skilled in the manual lifting and carrying of freight not exceeding 50 lbs.
• Manually adjusting the fifth wheel levers, tandem pins, and ensuring a secure trailer hookup.
• Aptitude for functioning effectively in harsh weather circumstances like heat, cold, and refrigerated atmospheres.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

• A high school diploma or similar qualification is preferred but not mandatory.
• Carrying a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
• Candidates must have a background of at least six months in driving tractor-trailers.
• Knowledge of DOT requirements and FMCSA safety protocols is necessary.
• It is essential to fulfill the Department of Transportation's criteria for medical assessments, safety guidelines, and drug/alcohol testing.

Skills & Abilities:

• Capability to work non-traditional hours, such as evenings and weekends, when required.
• Experienced in comfortable overnight travel and extended time spent away from home.
• Giving utmost importance to safety regulations and precision in execution.
• The significance of effective communication and customer service expertise cannot be understated in client interactions.
