Job Summary

Ensuring the prompt delivery of shipments between Dollar General Distribution Centers, stores, and suppliers is the primary responsibility of a Route Delivery Driver. This role involves safely operating a tractor-trailer, accurately unloading and reloading freight, and providing exceptional customer service. It is imperative for drivers to comply with state and federal regulations to maintain safety and optimize performance while driving.

Responsibilities

Primary Duties:

• Transport store-to-store shipments, manage returned products, and oversee the routing of goods for transportation to maintain safety, effectiveness, and timeliness, in accordance with company regulations and federal laws.
• Move and reload goods and rolltainers at various store locations.
• Before sealing the trailer, ensure that all freight and rolltainers are tightly secured.
• Submit all required paperwork and maintain precise documentation.
• Ensure excellence in customer service for store teams, vendors, and distribution center staff.
• Comply with the regulations imposed by the DOT and FMCSA to meet the necessary safety and operational standards.
• Complete pre-travel and post-travel examinations of allocated vehicles.

Physical Requirements:

• Skill in pushing and pulling rolltainers that can weigh from 600 to 1,200 lbs.
• Often engaging in squatting, crouching, and extending to attend to merchandise.
• - Able to manage the transportation of items weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Handling the operation of fifth wheel levers, adjusting tandem pins, and making trailer connections manually.
• Competence in handling work responsibilities in severe weather conditions, such as extreme heat, cold, and refrigerated environments.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

• Having completed high school or an equivalent program is advantageous.
• Having an authorized Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
• Prior experience driving tractor-trailers for a duration of no less than six months is a prerequisite.
• Being well-versed in DOT regulations and FMCSA safety standards is important.
• Meeting the DOT's specifications for medical clearances, safety measures, and drug and alcohol screenings is obligatory.

• Willingness to work on a flexible schedule that includes weekend and evening shifts.
• Skilled in handling overnight trips and lengthy periods away from one's dwelling.
• Concentrating on safety standards and a meticulous approach to particulars.
• Strong communication and customer service proficiencies are essential for engaging effectively with customers.
