Job Summary

The Store Freight Driver is tasked with delivering freight on time between Dollar General Distribution Centers, stores, and vendors. This position involves the safe operation of a tractor-trailer, precise unloading and reloading of cargo, and delivering excellent customer service. Drivers must adhere to all state and federal regulations to ensure safety and efficiency on the road.

Responsibilities

Primary Duties:

• Manage the transfer of goods from one store to another, oversee the handling of returns, and coordinate the backhauling of merchandise in a secure, efficient, and timely manner while complying with company policies and federal legislation.
• Transport and reload shipments and rolltainers at each retail store.
• Before closing the trailer, make sure all cargo and rolltainers are properly fastened.
• Fill out all essential paperwork and accurately manage records.
• Go above and beyond in delivering customer service to store teams, vendors, and distribution center employees.
• Ensure that all activities are conducted in accordance with the rules outlined by the DOT and FMCSA to maintain regulatory alignment.
• Ensure that pre-journey and post-journey inspections are conducted on assigned vehicles.

Physical Requirements:

• Competence to manage and operate rolltainers weighing 600-1,200 lbs through pushing and pulling.
• Regularly performing squats, crouches, and reaches to handle goods.
• - Competent in the physical task of lifting and conveying freight up to 50 lbs.
• Performing manual adjustments to the fifth wheel levers, tandem pins, and establishing connections with the trailer.
• Skill in carrying out duties in challenging weather conditions, including high temperatures, low temperatures, and refrigerated spaces.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

• Preferably, candidates should possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
• Maintaining a current Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
• The position calls for a minimal requirement of six months of tractor-trailer driving experience.
• Comprehension of DOT guidelines and FMCSA safety measures is vital.
• Satisfying the requirements outlined by the Department of Transportation concerning medical fitness, safety regulations, and drug/alcohol testing is necessary.
