Job Summary

The Freight Logistics Driver is accountable for delivering freight punctually between Dollar General Distribution Centers, stores, and vendors. This position requires the safe operation of a tractor-trailer, precise unloading and reloading of cargo, and offering exceptional customer service. Drivers must follow all state and federal regulations to uphold safety and efficiency on the roads.

Responsibilities

Primary Duties:

• Deliver store-to-store freight, process returns, and manage backhauls with a focus on safety, efficiency, and timeliness, adhering to company policies and federal regulations governing transportation.
• Offload and reload merchandise and rolltainers at individual store points.
• Before sealing the trailer, ensure that all cargo and rolltainers are securely fastened.
• Submit all mandatory documentation and uphold precise record management.
• Offer professional and courteous customer service to store teams, vendors, and distribution center associates.
• Abide by the standards and regulations set by the DOT and FMCSA to ensure regulatory compliance within the transportation industry.
• Check assigned vehicles before departure and after arrival for any issues.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to handle the pushing and pulling of rolltainers, ranging from 600 to 1,200 lbs.
• Repeatedly squatting, leaning, and stretching to manage cargo effectively.
• Have the capability to lift and transport packages weighing a maximum of 50 lbs.
• Engaging in manual manipulation of fifth wheel levers, tandem pins, and securing trailer connections.
• Proficiency in performing tasks in hostile weather conditions, like extreme heat, cold, and refrigerated environments.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

• While not required, a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
• Possessing a legitimate Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
• Applicants must demonstrate a history of operating tractor-trailers for a period of at least six months.
• Grasping DOT regulations and FMCSA safety standards is fundamental.
• The adherence to the Department of Transportation's guidelines for medical checks, safety standards, and drug/alcohol screenings is compulsory.

• Adept at comfortable overnight travel and prolonged periods spent away from home.
• Stressing the importance of safety measures and a meticulous approach to detail.
