Dollar General is hiring for Director, Digital Marketing Engineering
The Director of Digital Marketing Engineering leads the team in technical strategy, software development, and engineering management. This role requires staying up to date with emerging technology trends in marketing, including advertising, campaign management, content management, site optimization, CRM, personalization, loyalty, and paid media. The position is responsible for managing engineers, defining technology strategy, and providing Level 3 support for Dollar General’s marketing technology stack.
The Director will drive marketing engineering strategy, optimize internally developed and externally acquired technologies, eliminate technical debt, and manage cross-team dependencies. Additionally, this role involves vendor management, budgeting, and working with offshore teams for technology and talent acquisition.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Oversee marketing technology capabilities, including solution design, build/buy decisions, and application implementation.
- Own marketing engineering deliverables and reporting, ensuring cross-functional collaboration.
- Support customer data-related projects and requests from other engineering teams.
- Continuously evaluate and improve engineering processes for operational excellence.
- Lead the team in identifying, repairing, and maintaining technology solutions with proper documentation.
- Provide career development, training opportunities, and mentorship to engineering staff.
- Maintain a high-performing engineering team through strategic leadership.
- Manage the annual budget and team OKRs, with monthly and quarterly reporting.
- Influence and negotiate vendor relationships to maintain cost-effective performance.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Expertise in marketing technologies, including digital marketing, campaign management, advertising, content management, decisioning, orchestration, site optimization, analytics, and customer segmentation.
- Strong experience with customer data platforms, personalization, and loyalty technologies.
- Direct management experience of both technical and managerial staff.
- In-depth expertise in designing, developing, and implementing technology solutions.
- Experience with hardware, software, data models, and technology-based intellectual property.
- Ability to provide cost estimates, domain-specific support services, and total cost of ownership analysis.
- Strong leadership skills, capable of managing multiple complex projects from inception to completion.
- Excellent communication and writing skills, with a diplomatic and tactful approach.
- Ability to mentor, motivate, and provide constructive feedback to team members.
- Strong delegation and accountability skills at both individual and team levels.
- Ability to influence stakeholders and cross-functional partners effectively.
Work Experience & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or 12+ years of IT experience.
- 10+ years of experience in technology-related fields, including software development lifecycle (SDLC). Agile SDLC experience preferred.
- Experience managing teams of 20+ individuals, including 8+ direct reports.
- 7+ years of technology design experience, including scalability, disaster recovery, resiliency, security, and obsolescence management.
- 5+ years of experience working with offshore resources.
- 5+ years of experience in marketing technology platforms, specifically in campaign and media technologies.
- 5+ years of cloud-based technology solutions experience.
- 3+ years of experience in CRM, offer management technologies, and customer 360 solutions.
